Prayers

Here is the prayer released by the CCCB:

Prayer for Tolerance, Forgiveness, Reconciliation

O God, Creator and Father of all,
with humility we your children acknowledge the relationship of all living things.
For this we thank you, we praise you and we worship you.
We call on you, Great Mystery, the Word made Flesh
— our teacher, prophet and brother —
to open our hearts to all our brothers and sisters,
and with them to grow in the wisdom, honesty, courage
and respectfulness shown in The Sacred Teachings.
Give us the vision and honesty to recognize
that the we are all brothers and sisters of one human family,
created and sustained by the One Creator.
As we deal with many challenges, may we never give way to fear and anger,
which can be the source of division and threat amongst peoples.
We look to how God always gives to us,
as a remedy for sins of prejudice and intolerance.
We see in God the Creator of all things,
One who always provides and is generous
— even given the abuses we have heaped on one another and on the Earth.
We see in the Son, Jesus Christ
— the innocent Victim who pours His life blood out from the Cross for all peoples.
We see how the Holy Spirit is God’s gift,
alive in our world today —
inspiring vision and hope that we can have
the same mind and heart of God!
May Your Spirit bless the souls
who died at the Kamloops residential school
and all souls who died at residential schools.
May this same Spirit also bring blessing and healing
to all families and communities affected in any way by the schools.
O Creator, show us the way to healing,
forgiveness and reconciliation and a renewed fellowship.

Amen

Prayer for healing over Residential Schools
Our Father and Creator, we acknowledge all the gifts we have received from you. We especially acknowledge the gift of children which points towards a future of hope. We express our sorrow for all those Indigenous children and young people who have suffered during their time at Residential Schools over these past many decades. A suffering that continues for many. We also remember with grieving hearts the children who have died during these years. We remember the pain experienced by their families relatives and friends and the helplessness that many have felt when they heard of these deaths.
We know that you are a God of mercy and compassion as we see in the love your Son Jesus has for us. We ask for comfort, healing and consolation for all Indigenous peoples who are experiencing pain and sorrow over the Residential School legacy. Send your Holy Spirit into all hearts giving courage, humility and wisdom so that all the inhabitants of this land can walk the path of truth and reconciliation in justice, peace and love. We acknowledge your gifts Father, and we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
One Our Father – One Hail Mary – One Glory Be

Prayer for healing over Residential Schools:
Our Father, we acknowledge all the gifts we have received from your hands, especially the gift of children which points to a future full of hope. In your great mercy we pray for all Indigenous peoples who are experiencing pain and sorrow over the residential School legacy. Give us all courage, humility and wisdom so that we can live in peace and walk the path of truth and reconciliation. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.
We pray to the Lord,

My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

St. Anthony of Padua was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195.  He joined the Augustinian Order when he was 15.  In 1220, he witnessed the courage of five Franciscan Friars who were on their way to Morocco where they were martyred.  He was so impressed by their love of the Lord that he became a follower of St. Francis of Assisi.

Like St. Francis, St. Anthony was loved by the common people.

He was famous for his preaching, especially to those who had lost their faith.  He had hoped to become a missionary, but his poor health prevented him from accomplishing his dream.  Yet, St. Anthony continued to serve the Lord who he loved so profoundly that one of his friends even had a vision of him holding the child Jesus in his arms.  He still expressed that love through his intercession as the patron of the lost, and the many good deeds done for the poor in his name.

St. Anthony died in 1231 at the age of 36.  His body lies in the shrine dedicated to him in Padua, Italy.  His tomb is under the protection of the Conventual Franciscan Friars.

St. Anthony, Through whose voice the Word of God was preached,

intercede for my need.  Powerful Patron, Be with me always and teach

me to reach outin love and support to others.

Amen

UNFAILING PRAYER TO ST. ANTHONY

“Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints”

O holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when – on earth, to possess miraculous powers.  Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me (request)  The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles.  O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours.

PRAYER TO SAINT ANTHONY TO RECOVER LOST THINGS

O blessed St. Anthony,
the grace of God has made you a powerful advocate
in all our needs and the patron
for the restoring of things lost or stolen.
I turn to you today with childlike love and deep confidence.
You have helped countless children of God
to find the things they have lost,
material things, and, more importantly,
the things of the spirit: faith, hope, and love.
I come to you with confidence;
help me in my present need.
I recommend what I have lost to your care,
in the hope that God will restore it to me,
if it is His holy Will.
Amen.

The Miraculous Responsory or ‘Si Quaeris’

This prayer of praise in honor of St. Anthony was composed by Giuliano da Spira.  It is sung frequently in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua and every Tuesday throughout the world.

If then you ask for miracles,

Death, error, all calamities,

Leprosy and demons fly,

And health succeeds infirmities.

The sea obeys and fetters break,

And lifeless limbs do you restore;

Whilst treasures lost are found again,

When young and old your aid implore.

All dangers vanish at your prayer,

The direst need does quickly flee.

Let those who know your power proclaim,

Let Paduans say: these are of thee.

To Father, Son may glory be

And Holy Spirit, eternally.

“To Other Saints Our Lord seems to have given power to succor us in some special necessity – but to this glorious Saint, I know by experience.  He has given the power to help us in all.  Our Lord would have us understand that as He was subject to St. Joseph on earth – for St. Joseph bearing the title of father and being His guardian, could command Him – so now in Heaven Our Lord grants all his petitions.  I have asked others to recommend themselves to St. Joseph, and they, too, know the same thing by experience…” St. Theresa of Avila

Official Vatican Prayer to Saint John Paul II (Feast day: October 22)

Oh, Saint John Paul, from the window of heaven, grant us your blessing! Bless the church that you loved and served and guided, courageously leading it along the paths of the world in order to bring Jesus to everyone and everyone to Jesus.  Bless the young, who were your great passion.  Help them dream again,  help them look up high again to find the light that illuminates the paths of life here on earth.  May you bless families, bless each family! You warned of Satan’s assault against this precious and indispensable divine spark that God lit on earth. Saint John Paul, with your prayer, may you protect the family and every life that blossoms from the family.  Pray for the whole world, which is still marked by tensions, wars and injustice. You tackled war by invoking dialogue and planting the seeds of love:  pray for us so that we may be tireless sowers of peace.  Oh Saint John Paul, from heaven’s window, where we see you next to Mary, send God’s blessing down upon us all. Amen.

The Golden Hail Mary

One Hail Mary with love and thought said, is better than volumes of prayers poorly read.  If time and one’s duties prevent a long prayer, just say one Hail Mary with fervor and care.  The Golden Hail Mary which from the heart springs, the greatest of blessings from Mary it brings.  And we never will know till before Mary’s throne, how that daily Hail Mary brought us to her home.

A Memento of First Holy Communion

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.  Body of Christ, save me.  Blood of Christ, inebriate me.  Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me!  O good Jesus, hear me.  Within thy wounds hid me.  Permit me not to be separated from thee.  From the wicked foe defend me.  at the hour of my death call me…And bid me come to thee.  That with thy saints I may praise thee forever and ever.  Amen

Stewardship Prayer

Almighty God, I give thanks for all that I have and all that I am.  Most of all, I give thanks for the great gift of Your Son, Jesus.   I pray that through a personal relationship with the Risen Christ, my heart will be open to continued conversion in my life.   I pray that I may be a good steward: that I will follow faithfully, serve joyfully, give generously, live responsibly, and possess sensibly.   In gratitude for the abundant gifts You have so graciously given to me, I return to You the first fruits of these gifts, through acts of service and by generously sharing all that You have entrusted to me.  Heavenly Father, by Your Holy Spirit, help me to be a gift to others, in Your name.  Amen
